No doubt that the Astros are on a hot streak, having won 11 consecutive games. Tonight, Houston is starting Cristian Javier. Although the majority of his work has been in relief appearances, this will be his third start of the season. So far, Javier has only allowed a total of two runs in 21.2 IP. The Nats are going with Erick Fedde who is a bigger liability, but he's only given up more than two earned runs in one of his six starts. The Astros bullpen currently holds the lowest bullpen ERA in the league. Most importantly, the Astros are the best road under (15-5), and the Nats are the best home under (14-4). I'll take my chances on the under at even money.
Houston has the longest win streak in MLB at 11 games. Stout pitching has allowed the Astros to surrender an average of just one run during that streak. One of those strong pitchers is Saturday starter Cristian Javier, who has a 0.83 ERA . Take the Astros to push their streak to 12.
One of the signatures of this Astros' group is they are road warriors. In both 2017 and 2018, they had a better road record than home record, for example. They are 13-7 on the road this season and have now won 11 in a row overall. They are the clear better team here and will continue to hold down the opposing offense. They've only allowed 12 runs total during this 11-game winning streak. That isn't ready to turn yet with the capable Cristian Javier taking on the relatively punchless Nats.
It’s always nice to have a colleague like Micah Roberts convince you when to play your leans. Frankly he’s right, as long as the Astros are under -200 we have to ride them until the streak is over. This team is playing really well right now and they are tough to stop when they get going. The Nationals have been hitting righties well lately but for whatever reason they can’t seem to score at home. They are 4-14 at home this season and they face Christian Javier who has pitched well in any role he’s been in. The Astros also have the league’s best bullpen right behind him. Erik Fedde has pitched well in all but one start this season but the Nats bullpen behind him is in the bottom third of the league. Take the Astros while they’re hot.
