Twins vs. Tigers Wednesday MLB injury report, odds: Moneyline flips to Detroit favored as Minnesota without Byron Buxton, other regulars

The Minnesota Twins will be missing several everyday players for Wednesday's game in Detroit.

The Minnesota Twins opened as -125 favorites for Wednesday's series finale in Detroit, but the Twins are now -105 underdogs because they will be without key players including Byron Buxton, Max Kepler, Luis Arraez and Carlos Correa – we knew Correa was out due to COVID, but the others are all getting the night off following a doubleheader Tuesday and also perhaps in one or two cases because Detroit is starting a lefty on the mound. The total hasn't dropped (yet) from 7.5 runs.  (See tickets at StubHub)

Correa was placed on the COVID-19 injured list by the Twins on Tuesday, a day after the team said the shortstop had tested positive. He normally would have been replaced by touted prospect Royce Lewis, but Lewis is also sidelined after suffering a bone bruise in his right knee after colliding with the outfield wall on Sunday. Jermaine Palacios is starting at short today, and it's just his third big-league game.

The Twins are trying to treat the injury-prone Buxton (.204, 11 HRs, 21 RBIs, 26 runs) gently and it was actually surprising he played both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader – and thus no surprise he's off tonight. Nick Gordon is taking his spot center field and batting ninth. Left fielder Kyle Garlick is hitting in Buxton's typical leadoff spot.

Kepler (.260, six HRs, 25 RBIs, 23 runs) is simply resting because he hits lefty, and Trevor Larnach is taking his spot in the lineup. Arraez is fourth in the majors with a .351 average but snapped an 11-game hitting streak when he went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's nightcap, so he's getting the night off. Arraez finished the month of May by hitting .376 with 16 walks, a .480 on-base percentage and a .892 OPS in 23 games. Jose Miranda is starting at first base in his spot and batting sixth.

Tigers ace southpaw Tarik Skubal (3-2, 2.44 ERA) is on the mound. He's coming off a terrific May in which he was 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA. His lone start this year against the Twins didn't go well, as he was roughed up for six hits in five innings on April 28 in the Twin Cities.

It's Bailey Ober (1-1, 3.25 ERA) for the Twins. He is 1-0 with a 4.85 ERA, four walks, and 12 strikeouts in his three career starts against Detroit. Ober took a no-decision at home vs. the Tigers on April 28, allowing one run in 3.2 innings. Detroit is resting struggling shortstop Javy Baez, who is 1-for-2  for his career off of Ober.
