Tuesday, August 8 MLB odds, props, trends: Bettors backing Marlins' Braxton Garrett, Tigers' Eduardo Rodriguez
Here are the most-wagered MLB props Tuesday at DraftKings.
Entering July, lefty Braxton Garrett had been one of the dependable pitchers in the Miami Marlins rotation, but he has not been the same since then -- perhaps due to a career-high workload. Despite those recent struggles, two of the five most-wagered player props on the MLB board tonight at DraftKings are on Garrett, who will get the ball in Cincinnati. The most-wagered is on another pitcher: Detroit's Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Minnesota.
At the end of June, Garrett was 4-2 with a 3.53 ERA, and he's now 5-3 with a 4.14 mark. He has gone six full innings just once in his past six outings and has given up at least three earned runs in all but one. Garrett has allowed opponents to hit .301 since the start of July. The 26-year-old is at 111 big-league innings this year, almost as many as his previous three seasons with Miami combined. Garrett does lead all NL starting pitchers with a 6.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio (122 Ks/19 BBs, min. 110.0 IP).
Garrett Over 5.5 strikeouts (-160) and Under 1.5 walks (-170) against the Reds are his two popular props. It will be his fourth career start against Cincinnati and first in 2023. He's 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 15.2 innings vs. Cincy. Garrett has failed to top 5.5 Ks in four of his past five, falling one strikeout short of Over 5.5 in three. His season high is 12 strikeouts. Garrett has terrific control and has walked more than one batter just thrice in 2023, including last time out with two vs. the Phillies.
Miami has lost five straight, its second five-game skid since the All-Star break. The team is 1-14 in its past 15 road games and 5-17 since the break overall, tied with Arizona for MLB's worst record. The Marlins have the worst run differential (-40) of any team above .500 this season.
Rodriguez (7-5, 2.69 ERA) was set to be traded at the deadline from the Tigers to the Dodgers, but he wouldn't waive his no-trade clause to play for Los Anegles. The lefty will therefore finish this season in Detroit, and then probably opt out of his contract this winter and hit free agency again.
Rodriguez Over 5.5 strikeouts (-115) vs. the Twins is taking huge action at DK. Rodriguez has whiffed 96 in 16 starts, exactly six per game, but has failed to top five in each of his past two. His numbers across the board are actually better away from Comerica Park, which is generally a pitcher-friendly park. Rodriguez has not faced Minnesota this year, but the Twins lead the majors with 1,171 batter Ks after eight strikeouts total in Monday's 9-3 blowout win over Detroit.
Tonight's other popular MLB player props at DraftKings:
Angels' Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 home runs (+290) vs. Giants: MLB's home run leader with 40, Ohtani has gone four straight games without a homer.
Braves' Matt Olson Over 0.5 RBI (+100) at Pirates: MLB's RBI leader with 99, Olson has knocked in at least one run in 10 straight games.
