Timberwolves vs. Kings Tuesday NBA injury report, odds: Spread jumps as Sacramento trades Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield to Pacers; De'Aaron Fox questionable

The Sacramento Kings will be short-handed Tuesday vs. Minnesota after a blockbuster trade.

By@jordanpaytonsn1Updated: Feb 08, 2022 7:48PM UTC . 3 min read

The Minnesota Timberwolves opened as 3-point favorites for tonight's game at the Sacramento Kings but are now up to -7.5 at Caesars Sportsbook after the Kings traded guards Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield and forward Tristan Thompson to Indiana for a package led by former All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis ahead of Thursday's Trade Deadline. The Kings also are listing De'Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley as questionable tonight. Click here for model picks.

Sacramento is largely getting roasted on social media by giving up the promising Haliburton, a second-year point guard on a terrific contract averaging 14.3 points, 7.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, although he was a bit redundant with Fox. Haliburton just had a career-high 17 assists Saturday vs. Oklahoma City. There had been Fox trade rumors, too, but he will stay now and rookie lottery pick Davion Mitchell will move into the starting lineup in the backcourt.

Hield had been the subject of trade rumors since the offseason and perhaps they affected his play as the former Oklahoma star is averaging 14.4 points (lowest since his rookie season) and shooting a career-worst 38.2 percent and 36.8 percent from deep. Thompson was basically a throw-in.

Sabonis is a terrific player, two-time All-Star and a double-double machine but obviously won't play tonight for the Kings, who also got Jeremy Lamb, Justin Holiday and a 2027 second-round pick. Fox (21.0 ppg, 5.2 apg) is questionable with a sore left ankle but did practice fully Monday. He has missed the past eight games. Bagley (9.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg) missed Saturday's game with an ankle issue.

Minnesota is listing its starting backcourt of Patrick Beverley and D'Angelo Russell as questionable. Both did play in the Wolves' fourth straight win Sunday, 118-105 over Detroit. Russell looked great with 22 points, eight assists and five rebounds, his seventh game of the season with 20+ points/5+ rebounds/5+ assists.

Below is the SportsLine Projection Model's forecast for Indiana and Sacramento after the trade. Both are highly unlikely to make the playoffs.
