Timberwolves vs. Heat Monday NBA injury report, odds: Spread drops with Bam Adebayo ruled out, Jimmy Butler may sit too

The Miami Heat could be without their two best players in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo (he's definitely out) tonight vs. Minnesota.

Good luck handicapping a Miami Heat game these days because the team continues to list nearly half the roster on the injury report in the wake of the NBA recently fining the club eam $25,000 for violating league injury reporting rules. The Heat failed to disclose an accurate game availability status for several players prior to its game vs. Oklahoma City on Dec. 14 so now Miami is simply listing just about everyone. The team's two stars, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, were listed questionable for tonight's home game vs. Minnesota but Adebayo has just been ruled out. That dropped Miami from -3 to -2 at Caesars Sportsbook.

Butler suffered a sprained ankle in the fourth quarter of Friday's upset loss against the Pacers. He's having another All-Star-caliber season in averaging 21.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists. Butler has scored at least 20 points in his last six games. Yet the team is only 3-5 when he leads in scoring.

Adebayo is being listed with a right shoulder sprain and a non-COVID illness after playing 38 minutes against Indiana. On the season, he's averaging 20.8 points and 9.8 rebounds. When he has a double-double, the Heat are 10-5. His 133 career double-doubles are fifth in franchise history and one shy of Udonis Haslem for fourth. Adebayo's backup, Dewayne Dedmon, is out tonight as well. Gabe Vincent is listed questionable and Caleb Martin probable. The Heat look to end a two-game home skid.

Minnesota is without All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, Taurean Prince and Jordan McLaughlin. Rudy Gobert (just added to injury report) and Kyle Anderson are both questionable. The Wolves enter having dropped two in a row but have won three in a row against Miami. They played in the Twin Cities on Nov. 21 and Minnesota won 105-101. Towns had 25 points and Anthony Edwards 22 as the Wolves took control in the third by outscoring the Heat 37-19. Kyle Lowry led the Heat with 21 points, and Adebayo had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Butler, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson and Vincent were all out.
