The 2023 Memorial Tournament PGA golf odds, trends, tee times: Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland taking most action to win Jack Nicklaus' event

The Memorial tees off Thursday from Muirfield Village in Dublin.

The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, is annually one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour because it's an event hosted by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the +600 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to win the tournament for the first time, but Viktor Hovland and two-time winner Patrick Cantlay are taking the heaviest action. Tiger Woods won't play this week, but surely you knew that. He has won the tournament a record five times.

The Memorial is one of the PGA Tour's longest-running events at the same venue, having debuted at Muirfield Village in 1976 – a course designed by Nicklaus outside of Columbus, Ohio. The Golden Bear grew up in that area and starred at Ohio State. Muirfield Village Golf Club is a par 72 at 7,533 yards. The venue's name is inspired by Muirfield, Scotland, where Nicklaus won his first of three British Opens in 1966.

Each of the world's top five are teeing it up this week – No. 6 Max Homa is skipping the event to attend his sister's wedding. Three of the past four Memorial victories (Cantlay in 2019, Rahm in 2020, Cantlay in 2021) are by players who currently reside in the world's top five.

Cantlay at +1000 is taking the highest handle to win at 13.4%, ahead of 2020 winner Jon Rahm (+750) and Scheffler (9.0%). With Woods out, the 31-year-old Cantlay is tops in the field in all-time earnings at Muirfield Village. Hovland (+2200) leads in tickets at 8.9%, followed by Rahm at 6.6% and Cantlay at 6.1%. Hovland hasn't missed the cut in three trips to the Memorial but hasn't contended.

Americans have won the tournament in six of the past seven years. That a US player wins again is -165 with rest of the world at +135. Because it's technically an invitational, the field is limited to 120 players.

Weather apparently will not be an issue this weekend via weather.com:
