San Francisco Giants 2021 MLB odds: First team in league to cash over or under season betting win total

Bettors who wagered over the San Francisco Giants' win total already have cashed in.

Oddsmakers at various sportsbooks didn't have a very high opinion of the San Francisco Giants entering the 2021 season as they were given either an Over/Under season win total of 74.5 or 75.5 back in late March depending on which book you use. On Sunday, the Giants won their 76th game, meaning Over bettors already have cashed in with about six weeks left in the season.

According to SportsOddsHistory.com, the Giants clinching Over their win total already is the third-earliest since 1990 in a 162-game season that a team clinched either Over or Under. The 2001 Seattle Mariners, who would win an MLB-record 116 games but not make the World Series, went Over 81.5 wins in game 113. The 2004 Arizona Diamondbacks went Under 82.5 wins in their 115th game.

Some teams that were given higher win totals than the Giants to where it now looks rather laughable: Minnesota (88.5), Washington (84.5), LA Angels (83.5), Cleveland (81.5) and Chicago Cubs (78.5).

San Francisco's 76-42 record is the team's best through 118 games since the 1993 team started 79-39. That team finished 103-59 yet didn't even make the playoffs, finishing one game behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL West – those Giants were the only National League team to win 100 or more games and not make the playoffs in the divisional play era.

To make the playoffs this year, the Giants are massive -10000 favorites with no at +3000. The Dodgers had been NL West favorites all season but Caesars Sportsbook finally has put San Francisco in the favored role at -120 with L.A. at even. To win the pennant, though, the Giants are +425 second-favorites with the Brewers behind the Dodgers (+155).

The Giants open a home series and possible playoff preview tonight against the New York Mets with Kevin Gausman opposed by Rich Hill. It begins stretch of 19 consecutive games vs. playoff contenders for the Giants: the Mets (6), A's (3), Braves (3), Brewers (4) and Dodgers (3).

San Francisco's 40-18 home record is the best in the majors. The Giants are averaging 4.96 runs per game at Oracle Park, which would be the fourth-highest runs per game for a season since it opened in 2000.
