NFL Week 3 picks: Fade the Ravens, and more best bets against the spread from Las Vegas SuperContest expert

R.J. White shares his five picks for the Westgate SuperContest after hitting on more than 57 percent of his plays in the competition over the last six years.

Week 2 was a get-right spot for my picks in both the Westgate SuperContest and the Circa Sports Million, as I put up a 3-2 record in both to get back to .500. My two losses were common to each card; I put way too much faith in the Steelers to have a functional offense, and my Falcons pick fell apart thanks to two late pick-sixes from Matt Ryan. Still, we nailed the Panthers game, held our breath as the Bears held on to a cover late, and came through with wins on Green Bay and Dallas in the two selections that weren't shared by both cards.

I've been SportsLine's No. 1 NFL expert over the last four years, going 354-292-22 against the spread in particular during that stretch. I've also delivered a 57.1 percent hit rate on my SuperContest picks over the last six seasons, which is exactly what you're getting below. And that run includes two finishes in the money, including finishing 18th out of 2,748 entries back in 2017.

If you're a SportsLine subscriber, you can get all my picks, which in a typical NFL week number in the double digits, at the same time as I make them by downloading the app and signing up for alerts on my expert page. That's crucial, as you might not have access to the same lines from the Las Vegas contests, which don't move after they're posted mid-week. This week, one of my favorite picks is one of the ugliest lines on the card: the Detroit Lions +8 vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

Even though the Raiders didn't succumb to what I thought was a letdown spot last week, the Ravens have even more of a letdown spot in Week 3, coming off their slaying of the Chiefs dragon in primetime. They also have what will likely be the 3-0 Broncos up next. In between, they play a perceived doormat in the Lions and are favored by more than a TD on the road. But the Lions have been competitive to date, and their offense looks capable of scoring points when Jared Goff isn't drenched in rain. I was a big fan of this pick early in the week and love it even more with the Ravens losing multiple players to the COVID-19 list on Friday. Ronnie Stanley and Derek Wolfe are also out with injuries, and the Ravens haven't gotten full practices from Lamar Jackson and Marquise Brown this week either. The Lions have shown to be good enough to keep this game close, and at the very least, the offense is good enough to storm through the back door if we need it in the fourth quarter.

Get the rest of my SuperContest picks and my Circa Million picks below, including a big favorite I trust enough to put on both cards.
