NFL Week 17 opening line projections: Early power rating adjustments to help attack spreads for every game

Be ready for the Week 16 spread release from the sportsbooks with our early look at Week 17 ATS power ratings

The big news from the early slate of Sunday games was the Lions clinching a division title for the first time in 30 years thanks to a win over the Vikings. The Detroit offense looked like a potential championship unit in the game, picking up 28 first downs and having success both through the air and on the ground. However, their defense continues to look like a problem, giving up 7.6 yards per play to Nick Mullens in a game where the Vikings lost both Jordan Addison early and T.J. Hockenson later. Much of the damage was negated by taking advantage of Mullens' many mistakes and recording four interceptions, but what happens when they're up against a competent quarterback in the playoffs?

I didn't move the Lions' spread power rating at all with how poor the defense played for much of the game, and I'm worried I may have them a little too high heading into next week's primetime game against the Cowboys in Dallas. The lookahead line for that game was Cowboys -5.5, and we'll see where it reopens later today.

One team I did adjust up was the Browns, who are clearly an above-average team with Joe Flacco running the offense. Even with all the players Cleveland has lost on offense, including up front on the line, the Browns are starting to look like one of the best teams in a muddled AFC playoff race. They'll face the Jets on Thursday next week as they look to be on a path to the No. 5 seed.

I also made plenty of other power ratings adjustments to get an idea of where I would set the spread for each Week 17 game. You can see all of my early projected spreads below, which is designed to help you attack the Week 17 opening lines later today.  We'll run our full look at power ratings and official spread projections on Tuesday here at SportsLine.
