NFL Week 10 opening line report, odds, spreads: Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers likely to return for marquee matchup; Odell Beckham Jr. could debut
Future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers are set to face off Sunday – if both are cleared.
One of the marquee matchups of Week 10 around the NFL is clearly the Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers as long as it features a matchup of future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. It's looking as if that will be the case but not a done deal yet; that matchup loses a TON of luster if it's instead Geno Smith vs. Jordan Love. Caesars Sportsbook oddsmakers clearly think Rodgers at least will play because the Packers are 5-point home favorites.
Rodgers missed Sunday's loss in Kansas City in the COVID protocols and the earliest he can return is Saturday based on the NFL's COVID protocols for unvaccinated players. Coach Matt LaFleur said Rodgers, if available, will "absolutely" start even without practicing all week. Rodgers will participate in meetings remotely and Jordan Love will get the first-team reps in practice.
Love didn't look good in his first NFL start Sunday in completing 19 of 34 for 190 yards with a TD and a pick in a 13-7 loss to Chiefs to see a seven-game Green Bay winning streak snapped. The Packers no longer control their own destiny to earn the NFC's top seed, falling a game behind Arizona (8-1) – Green Bay would own the tiebreaker vs. the Cardinals.
Wilson hasn't played since Week 5 after surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his right middle finger. He has been cleared to throw and Week 10 always was the target for Wilson's return. Seattle went 1-2 in Smith's three starts and comes off a bye week. Wilson, incidentally, has urged the Seahawks to claim Odell Beckham Jr., who will officially be placed on waivers today.
Mike Florio reported during the Sunday Night Football pregame that Beckham prefers to become a free agent and wants to join Seattle. The Seahawks entered Week 9 sitting ninth in the NFL waiver-claiming order. Any team that claims Beckham will owe him the rest of his 2021 pay, which is $7.25 million. Seattle does have enough cap room.
Will the Cardinals have QB Kyler Murray and WR DeAndre Hopkins back in Week 10? Both missed Sunday's game in San Francisco and the Cardinals dominated anyway. Arizona opened as a 10-point home favorite for this Sunday vs. Carolina, which might be ready for a QB change with Sam Darnold continuing to struggle.
Buffalo, coming off a shocking loss in Jacksonville, is the biggest Week 10 favorite at -13 at the New York Jets. Not clear who will start at QB for the Jets yet between rookie Zach Wilson, backup Mike White, third-stringer Josh Johnson or even Joe Flacco with Wilson and White injured. The No. 2 overall pick Wilson, two weeks removed from a second-degree PCL sprain in his right knee, is expected to practice this week but that doesn't necessarily mean the team will throw him out there.
White left last Thursday's loss to the Colts early with a right forearm injury but is expected to be fine. It most likely will be him under center. White has more touchdown passes in seven quarters (five) than Wilson has in 22 (four).
