NFC East futures trends: William Hill bettors optimistic on Cowboys, pessimistic on Giants

The Dallas Cowboys are taking a ton of money at William Hill sports to exceed their 2020 win total, while the New York Giants are going the opposite way.

An argument could be made that the NFC East is the NFL's most popular division overall because it features the Dallas Cowboys, who are America's Team, plus three other big-city franchises with plenty of tradition in Philadelphia, the New York Giants and Washington. All four have won at least one Super Bowl. Rather amazingly, no team has repeated as NFC East champion since the Eagles in 2004.

Today, however, we will look at each team's 2020 win totals, and to no shock bettors are incredibly bullish on the Cowboys. Just like Cubs fans seem to bet on their team to win the World Series every year, no matter how good they project to be, Dallas fans similarly bet optimistically.

Under new Coach Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys have a win total of Over-Under 9.5, and 90 percent of all money wagered at William Hill sportsbook is on the Over. Only four other teams in the league are taking at least 90 percent of all win total action on the Over: Denver (most of any team at 99 percent), Detroit, Indianapolis and Minnesota. The Cowboys' win total has gotten a division-high 34 percent of the total number of tickets sold for all NFC East win total bets. No team takes more betting action annually overall than the Cowboys during a season.

Philadelphia, which edged Dallas for the NFC East title last year thanks to a Week 16 head-to-head victory, also is set at 9.5 wins and is taking an 82 percent lean on the Over. The Eagles got some bad news this week, though, with a season-ending injury suffered by Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks. Philly is the only team in the division with a returning head coach (Doug Pederson).

On the flip side, New York Giants bettors aren't very optimistic for Joe Judge's first season as a head coach. The G-Men are listed at 6.5 wins and are the only team in the division taking an Under lean on money wagered (77 percent) and tickets sold (62 percent). Two of the three highest Under bets in the entire NFL at William Hill (both around $2,800) have been on the Giants.

Finally, the Redskins are set at 5.5 wins under new coach Ron Rivera and taking an interesting split with 71 percent of all money on the Over but 58 percent of all tickets on Under. One Nevada bettor at a William Hill sportsbook dropped $5,500 on the Over, which would return $10,500.
