NBA Finals: Warriors' optimism waning on Kevin Durant status for Game 5

Only once in 34 tries has a team rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals.

The Golden State Warriors are in a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals as the series heads to Toronto for Game 6 on Monday. And it sounds like Kevin Durant may not be ready to save them.

Durant has been dealing with a calf injury suffered in Game 5 of the second round against the Houston Rockets. He missed the clinching Game 6 against James Harden and Co., all five games against the Trail Blazers and the first four games of the Finals.

Officially, Durant's status is questionable for Monday as Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors look to secure the first championship in franchise history. Unofficially, it's not sounding good.

"Durant just isn't ready. His body's not ready," ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported prior to Game 4 on Friday. "The trainers don't believe it, he doesn't believe it, he tried to do some stuff in practice yesterday. It didn't work."

His production in the postseason has been elite. In 11 playoff games, Durant has averaged 34.2 points on 51.3 percent shooting. He also brought in 5.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

If there's any solace for Golden State as it prepares for yet-another game without Durant, it's that the team bonds together on the road in his absence, winning four of their five road playoff games without him.

The Warriors are five-point underdogs for Game 5. Their championship odds are at just over 5-1, the highest they've been in more than three years. Teams leading 3-1 in the NBA Finals are 33-1 all-time. The lone exception: 2016, when LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a historic rally over these Warriors.
