Monday Night Football picks: Who covers the spread, plus my favorite prop picks for Patriots vs. Cardinals

NFL insider Jason La Canfora breaks down the final game of Week 14 as the Cardinals host the Patriots

We warned you guys a few weeks back about the pending Patriots fatigue the NFL had planned for us. It was coming. Nothing we could do about it.

And now it's here. Yet another appearance for Primetime Matt Patricia! Are you not satisfied? Already seen enough? Too bad! Now we get it on Monday night. Thank goodness we won't have to endure it next Sunday night. That meeting with the Raiders has been flexed back to where it belongs. But fear not. It won't go with a whimper. We get to watch Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray scream at each other for four quarters on the opposite sideline and try to avoid blame for this debacle of an offense.

Sure, the post-game press conference might be more entertaining than this football game. But that doesn't mean there isn't some investment potential. In general, I don't love this game, outside of a few props. I have a hard time buying either of these teams overall.

    Patriots at Cardinals

    Spread: Patriots -1.5

Bill Belichick vs Kliff Kingsbury. Enough said. Yes, having Matt Patricia impersonate an offensive coordinator does muddy the waters and even this out some. And Belichick's big bad defense isn't really anything special when it faces an opponent with some legit weapons on offense. But in general, there is a lesser chance the Patriots implode than the Cardinals. Arizona saves its very worst performances for games in front of their home crowd, and getting to do it on a Monday night should be a chef's kiss. I think New England will be able to get pressure off the edge with Josh Uche and Matt Judon, I anticipate the Patriots getting medieval with the offensive game plan and running the ball all over this suspect defense and winning this game by a field goal or more. The Cardinals have lost 10 of their last 11 at home.

    Total: Over 43.5

Both Kyler Murray and Mac Jones are capable of significant blunders and I see that creating some wonderful scoring opportunities for the opposition. The Pats' red zone offense is broken, you tell me? Don't worry, Vance Joseph's red zone defense can fix that on the fly. Murray will be able to run all over the New England defense – just watch the Justin Fields film from a few weeks back; mobile QBs create major issues for this unit – and Arizona will get explosive plays and quick scores out of that. Would a Jones pick-six really shock anyone at this point? Six straight Cardinals games have gone Over, averaging just under 57 total points in that span.

    Same Game Parlay (+625)

    • Kyler Murray Over 35.5 Rushing Yards
    • Mac Jones Over 1.5 Passing TDs
    • Rhamondre Stevenson Anytime TD

    Player Props

    Marquise Brown Anytime TD (+175)

Belichick will sell out to stop DeAndre Hopkins, but Murray looks to Brown on the street-ball stuff (what's that, maybe 82.3% of Kingsbury's offense?) and all the underneath checkdowns when he is under pressure. Murray will be under lots of pressure and Brown's skillset will be a problem for the second level of this defense.

Mac Jones Over 1.5 Passing TDs (+133)

Playing a hunch. I see New England winning in the screen game and leaning on that in the red zone. Jones isn't afraid to take deep shots either, and this Arizona defense can be forgiving in that regard.

Kyler Murray Over 35.5 Rushing Yards (-117)

Murray will have at least one run over 20 yards. Baked into this cake. If he really feels like tucking and running he could double this figure with relative ease.

    Mac Jones INT (-103)

Jones has tossed 16 of these bad boys in 15 starts. He seems to be at war with Patricia, for good reason. The season on the line. Jones will force a few throws he'll want back. One of these hybrid defenders the Cardinals keep collecting will come down with a jump ball.

DeAndre Hopkins Over 77.5 Receiving Yards (-117)

I'm old enough to remember Justin Jefferson torching this defense on Thanksgiving night.

Rhamondre Stevenson Over 77.5 Rushing Yards (-104)

Stevenson will get fed. He'll have a heavy workload and will wear this defense out in the second half. There's not as much value in the anytime TD market for him (-150), but I really like that as well.
