Kraken vs. Oilers Tuesday NHL injury report, odds: Evander Kane, Stuart Skinner returning for Edmonton

Two of the top offensive teams in the NHL face off Tuesday night when the Seattle Kraken visit the Edmonton Oilers. The total is currently set at over/under 6.5 at Caesars Sportsbook, but the Over is solidly favored. The total might balloon to 7 with the news that Edmonton will get stellar offensive forward Evander Kane back from long-term injured reserve. Top Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner will also return from personal leave. The Oilers are -190 favorites.

The most frightening incident in the NHL this season happened on Nov. 8 in the Oilers' 3-2 win at Tampa Bay as Kane was cut on the left wrist by a skate blade. The wound gushed blood as he rushed to the locker room and then to the hospital. He got tangled up with Lightning defenseman Philippe Myers in the second period and was cut by Tampa Bay forward Pat Maroon's skate blade.

Kane had surgery on the wrist. He has been skating and was cleared by doctors Monday to return about a month ahead of schedule. Kane had five goals, eight assists and a plus-4 rating in 13 games before the injury and 22 goals and 17 assists in 43 games for Edmonton last year after signing midseason. He added 13 goals and 17 points in the playoffs. Kane has had some off-ice issues but is a terrific player.

The Oilers had to clear money to activate Kane and his $5.125 million cap hit off LTIR. To be cap complaint, the team placed Kailer Yamomoto on LTIR retroactive to Jan. 11.

Skinner, who has supplanted Jack Campbell as the top goalie, has missed the past two games to be with his wife Chloe for the birth of their first child on Saturday morning. He practiced in full Monday and should start tonight. He's 12-10-2 with a 2.96 goals against average and .914 save percentage. 

Consider points props on Edmonton's dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, as they lead all NHL players in points vs. the Kraken all-time (dating to last season) with 11 and 10, respectively.

Seattle's NHL-best and franchise-record eight-game winning streak was snapped in a 4-1 home loss to Tampa Bay on Monday as the Kraken played without forward Jaden Schwartz (10G, 13A). He's doubtful for Tuesday. Backup Philipp Grubauer was in net Monday, but it should be Martin Jones against Edmonton. He's 7-0 with a 1.86 GAA and a .926 SV in the new year.

The Kraken and Oilers have split two meetings thus far, each winning a high-scoring game on the road.
