Kenny Golladay 2021 NFL odds, props: New York Giants' top receiver leaves practice with potential hamstring injury
The New York Giants' top receiver, Kenny Golladay, left practice Tuesday with an injury. The seriousness is not known as of this writing.
Kenny Golladay is trending on social media right now as the former Pro Bowl wide receiver, the New York Giants' big offseason free-agent addition, left practice Tuesday morning appearing to grab his left hamstring. No news from the team yet, but that has to be worrisome considering Golladay was rather injury-prone previously with the Detroit Lions, who didn't even slap the franchise tag on him. At Caesars Sportsbook, Golladay is +3000 to lead the NFL in receiving yards this season.
The Giants had one of the weaker groups of wideouts last year and addressed that pretty early in free agency this past March in signing Golladay to a four-year, $72 million deal. The 2017 third-round pick out of North Dakota broke out with Detroit in 2018 with 70 catches for 1,063 yards and five scores and then was a Pro Bowler the next year with 65 catches for 1,190 yards and an NFL-leading 11 TDs. However, he was limited to just five games in 2020 due to hamstring (uh-oh) and hip injuries.Â
Golladay is priced +5000 to lead the NFL in TD catches this year and is given Over/Under season totals of 1,000.5 receiving yards and 6 receiving TDs. I'd expect the books to take those totals down until his injury status is clear.
Needless to say, it's too early to assume anything, but if Golladay were to miss time that would be crushing for the Giants because they may not have star running back Saquon Barkley to open the regular season as he recovers from the torn ACL that ended his 2020 season in Week 2.
Sterling Shepard, who can't stay healthy himself, and Darius Slayton, are the team's other top wideouts. Kadarius Toney was chosen with the No. 20 overall pick this year out of Florida. Toney had yet to take part in an actual camp practice through Monday after coming off the COVID list.
New York opens the season at home vs. Denver, which is a 1-point favorite on the NFL odds. Then, the Giants play in the first quick turnaround game of the new season in Week 2, a trip to defending NFC East champion Washington.
Big Blue has a win total of 7, is a +250 underdog to make the playoffs and -310 to miss again.
