The make playoff and miss playoffs markets are some of the more interesting NFL futures betting angles each year. While bets on the Super Bowl, conference and division winners are cut and dried with only one winner for each group of odds, playoff betting is more in line with win total betting as each team has two sides you can play and one winning side per team. Bettors also have to factor in the limited number of playoff spots available.

My strategy piece last year went 3-3 but was profitable thanks to fading the Falcons as a playoff team, which I recommended as a +175 play. Our breakdown of the NFC that included leans as well as best bets did even better, going 4-1 while also adding in the Vikings as a playoff bet to consider at +300.

This year, I'm going to do things a bit differently. I'll create three groups of playoff bets to discuss: favorites of greater than -150, underdogs greater than +150 and the teams in between. I'll start with the group in the middle, as that will be the primary focus for most bettors looking to play the market. Then I'll hit my favorite longshots above +150 that are worth considering, as it can be fun to have a sleeper like last year's Broncos or Vikings to root for throughout the season. Then we'll quickly wrap with the group of strong favorites to see if there is any value worth considering for those willing to risk the lower payouts on shorter odds.
