Falcons vs. Panthers Thursday NFL Week 10 odds, trends: Bettors hammering short favorite Atlanta, Cordarrelle Patterson to score touchdown
Bettors at Caesars Sportsbook expect the Falcons to cover the spread tonight at the Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers might be the biggest dumpster fire in the NFL right now, and they were embarrassed on Sunday in Cincinnati, 42-21 – and it really wasn't that close. Here's a betting statistic for you: Teams that allowed at least 40 points in their previous game are just 2-13 straight up and 3-15 against the spread over the past 20 years. The Atlanta Falcons are -2.5 in Charlotte tonight and taking monster action at BetMGM. So is Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson on the player props. Click here for model picks.
As of this writing, 82% of the money and 80% of the tickets are the Falcons ATS even though Atlanta quarterback Marcus Mariota is just 3-8 ATS in his starting career as a road favorite. On the total of 42.5, 64% of bets and 54% of the dollars on are on the Under. On the moneyline, Carolina is now +120 and taking just 33% of bets and 21% of the money.
Patterson returned from a four-game injury absence on Sunday in a loss to the Chargers. The converted receiver had two rushing scores on 13 carries. He has five touchdowns in five games. The most-wagered player prop tonight at BetMGM is on Patterson to score the first touchdown at +650, followed by Patterson to score an anytime TD at +110 and Patterson going Over 54.5 rushing yards (-115) -- a whopping 98% of bets are on the Over.
Patterson has topped that yardage number twice this year and missed Atlanta's first game with Carolina, which is one of the NFL's worst teams against the rush (allowing 139.3 rushing yards per game). Patterson recorded a touchdown in each of his two games against the Panthers last season.
Injury-wise, the Falcons have ruled out cornerback AJ Terrell, safety Erik Harris and No. 2 tight end Feleipe Franks. Terrell, a former All-Pro, will miss a third straight game to a hamstring injury.
Carolina has ruled out safety Juston Burris (concussion) and wide receiver Rashard Higgins (illness). Cornerback Donte Jackson is questionable but practiced Wednesday. PJ Walker will start at QB despite his poor showing in the first half Sunday in Cincinnati. He was eventually pulled for Baker Mayfield. Walker may have a short leash.
