Commanders vs. Chiefs betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries, weather and more for Week 8 Monday Night Football

We're back to just the one Monday Night Football game per week for the rest of the season, and there's no sugarcoating that the Week 8 matchup between the Commanders (3-4) and Chiefs (4-3) from Kansas City has lost much of its luster given that Jayden Daniels won't play. Thus, it appears to be a mismatch with K.C. at -11.5 and a total of 48 for the 8:15 ET kick on ABC and ESPN. Weather might be a factor.

Normally, I'll somewhat bury the lede in terms of injuries to keep you reading, but missing out on the Daniels vs. Patrick Mahomes matchup is such a massive disappointment as a football fan. Mahomes is clearly the best quarterback alive right now with those three Super Bowl rings, three Super Bowl MVPs and two regular-season MVPs under his belt. While Mahomes might not catch Tom Brady's seven titles, he might own most of Brady's passing records by the time he's done. And at age 30, Mahomes is still right in his prime.

Daniels already has done something Mahomes didn't in the NFL: win Offensive Rookie of the Year, although Mahomes only played one meaningless end-of-season game in 2017 while sitting and learning behind Alex Smith. Daniels had one of the great rookie seasons in history in 2024, leading the Commanders to a shock run to the NFC title game. Daniels looks like the future of the position in terms of passing and running. 

It's hoped Daniels will play in Week 9. He didn't miss a game as a rookie but this will be his third contest on the sideline in 2025. So who knows when we might see a Daniels vs. Mahomes matchup next, as I surely don't think it will be in Super Bowl LX in February. A Commanders-Chiefs matchup is priced +8000. I expect Washington to miss the playoffs if it loses Monday.
