Chiefs vs. Jaguars betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries, weather and more for Week 5 Monday Night Football
Before you lock in your plays for Monday's Kansas City at Jacksonville NFL Week 5 game, check out our full betting preview.
It's a fairly rare Monday Night Football home game for the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) as they host a team very used to playing under the lights in the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) to conclude Week 5. Patrick Mahomes & Co. are -3.5 with a total of 45.5 for the 8:15 ET kick on ABC and ESPN.
Turnovers are obviously crucial in any NFL game and these teams have been polar opposites in that regard. Entering Week 5, Kansas City has just one giveaway, tied for the fewest in the league, and Jacksonville has 13 takeaways (nine interceptions, four fumble recoveries), the most in the NFL and most by any team through four games since the 2018 Browns. This after the Jaguars had a league-low nine takeaways in 2024.Â
Jacksonville is only the fifth club since 2002 with at least thee takeaways in each of the first four games of a season. Since 1990, only two teams have recorded two or more INTs in each of the first five: the 1996 Packers (first eight) and the 2021 Cowboys (first five). The Chiefs, meanwhile, have have won 39 straight games when winning the turnover battle, the third-longest streak by any team since 1960, including playoffs.Â
While playing on Monday night or in primetime at all is old news for Kansas City, it's a big deal for Jacksonville with the Jaguars off to just their second 3-1 or better start in the past 18 seasons. They were also 3-1 in 2018, but that club collapsed to a 5-11 record. This is the first of three straight home games, although the last of those is in London.
With Houston going backward and Tennessee perhaps the NFL's worst team, the AFC South is very winnable for the Jaguars for the first time since 2022, which is the last time they made the playoffs. They are +210 second favorites behind surprising 4-1 Indianapolis (-135). Those two clubs won't meet until Week 14. The SportsLine Projection Model entering Week 5 projected Jacksonville to finish with 9.2 wins, a 33.8% shot (equates to +196) to win the division and a 57.2% chance to make the playoffs (-134).Â
The hiring of former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen as head coach looks wise so far for Jacksonville and he's the +800 third favorite to win NFL Coach of the Year behind the Colts' Shane Steichen (+350) and Patriots' Mike Vrabel (+650), the latter of whom got a big boost with New England's upset win in Buffalo on Sunday night.Â
