Chargers vs. Ravens NFL injury report, Week 6 odds, spread: Mike Williams, Sammy Watkins in question; unusual trend says Baltimore will win because it did Monday

Terrific matchup of first-place teams Sunday as the Chargers visit the Ravens.

One of the marquee matchups Sunday in NFL Week 6 features two of the most exciting young quarterbacks in the league as Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers visit Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Both QBs could be without a key receiver. The Ravens are 3-point favorites at Caesars Sportsbook and one very unusual trend for teams coming off Monday night games says Baltimore will indeed win (can't speak to covering).

It's now pretty obviously that if the 2020 NFL Draft was done again that Herbert would go No. 1 overall to the Bengals – no offense to Joe Burrow. In the Chargers' three-game winning streak, the No. 6 overall pick has totaled 12 touchdowns and his 11 career games with at least 300 passing yards has surpassed Patrick Mahomes and Dan Marino for the most such games by a player in his first two seasons in NFL history. And it's only Week 6!

Herbert is now a +700 third-favorite to win NFL MVP. Receiver Mike Williams could be in some question after missing practice Wednesday, although nowadays a lot of veterans are given Wednesdays off. Williams did leave last Sunday's win over the Browns briefly with a knee injury but finished with a monster line of eight catches for 165 yards and two scores and is having a career season with 31 catches for 471 yards and six scores.

Of course, Jackson won the 2019 NFL MVP Award and improved to +1000 for this season following his epic performance Monday night in an incredible 31-25 overtime comeback win over Indianapolis. Jackson was 37-for-43 for a franchise-record 442 yards and four TDs while rushing for 62 yards. He accounted became is the first player in NFL history with 400 passing yards and at least an 85 percent completion rate in a game. There have been 4,017 individual games of at least 40 pass attempts in an NFL game and Jackson's 86 was the highest completion percentage in any of them.

Jackson may not have wideout Sammy Watkins as he left Monday's game early with a hamstring injury and never returned. The loss of Watkins would be a lot less than the Bolts losing Williams as Watkins has 18 catches for 292 yards and zero TDs. In addition, the Ravens are likely to see the debut of first-round rookie wideout Rashod Bateman on Sunday. He has been on injured reserve.

It used to be that teams coming off a Monday night game were at a huge disadvantage on a short week. Apparently no longer. Dating to Week 14 of last season (no Monday night game in Week 17), teams that won a Monday game are 9-0 straight up in their next games.

It's also a tough 1 p.m. ET kickoff for the Chargers and Baltimore has won 19 of its past 23 at home against teams that had to travel three hours ahead.
