Braves vs. Guardians Wednesday MLB odds, props: NL MVP favorite Ronald Acuna Jr. on historic stolen base and home run streak
Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is running away with the NL MVP Award.
An argument could be made that the greatest offensive season in American League history was put together last year by the Yankees' Aaron Judge, the eventual league MVP. An argument could be made that Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is on pace to have arguably the greatest offensive season in National League history -- non-Barry Bonds division -- and carries a very unusual 13-game streak into tonight's matchup in Cleveland, with the Braves as -165 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook.
Acuña is now the -350 favorite at BetMGM to win his first NL MVP Award, with no other player below +1200. A whopping 44% of the money on that prop, easily the most, is on Acuña. The field is a +240 underdog. The 25-year-old has become the first player ever to have at least 20 homers, 40 steals and 50 RBI before the All-Star break. He's batting .337 with 21 homers, 54 RBI and a career-high 41 steals.
That Acuña finishes as member of the rare 40-homer, 40-steal club this season is -125, with No at -102, at FanDuel. The last 40-40 season in the NL was by Alfonso Soriano in 2006. We can probably forget about the NL's first Triple Crown since 1937, as Acuña doesn't lead in any of those categories. In fact, teammate Matt Olson leads the NL in homers (28) and RBI (68) but doesn't hit for a high average (currently .248).
Atlanta had a nine-game winning streak snapped in a 6-5 10-inning loss in Cleveland on Tuesday, but Acuña was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. He became the first MLB player in the modern era to have a home run or stolen base in 13 straight games. Oakland's Bert Campaneris held the original record of 12 in a row in 1969, but did so entirely with stolen bases.
For Wednesday night's game, Acuña is +280 to homer and +150 for a steal. He has a single in three career at-bats against Guardians starter Cal Quantrill.Â
The Braves are looking for their 18th win in their last 20 games. The last 11 MLB teams with a stretch of 18-2 or better all failed to win the World Series, believe it or not. Atlanta is the +330 Fall Classic favorite. The most recent team to have an 18-2 or better stretch and win it all was the Red Sox in 2004.Â
