Baltimore Ravens trap game alert: Week 4 at Washington Redskins

The Baltimore Ravens will be sizable favorites Week 4 at the Washington Redskins, but that could set up as a trap game.

One of the bigger mismatches of the 2020 NFL regular season would appear to be in Week 4 when the Ravens make the 30-mile or so trip from Baltimore to Landover, Md., to face the Washington Redskins. The Ravens are Super Bowl contenders and the Redskins definitely are not. Early projections have Baltimore as a 10-point favorite.

However, that might scream trap game for reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson & Co. That's because the Ravens play arguably their biggest game of the year on Monday in Week 3 against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs. That may well be an AFC title game preview, with the Chiefs as +200 conference favorites and the Ravens next at +325 on the moneyline odds at William Hill sportsbook.

Baltimore's lone road loss in the 2019 season was 33-28 in Kansas City in Week 3. The Chiefs somewhat lucked out in last year's playoffs when the Tennessee Titans upset the Ravens in the Divisional Round. Otherwise, the Chiefs would have had to play in Baltimore for the AFC title.

That Chiefs matchup is the first time Baltimore will host a Monday night game since 2017 and only the third time it will host one since Coach John Harbaugh's 2008 arrival. The game vs. the Redskins is just the fifth regular-season contest between the neighbors with the series tied 2-2. Washington won the last meeting 16-10 in 2016 back when Kirk Cousins and Joe Flacco were the teams' respective starting quarterbacks.

Last year, Baltimore was 3-1 against the spread with a rest disadvantage as it will face against Washington. It was a double-digit road favorite twice in 2019, winning and covering in both. After the trip to the Redskins, the Ravens have a home division game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5.

Washington will be on normal rest in hosting the Ravens as the Skins are in Cleveland for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Week 3. With the rest advantage in 2019, the Redskins were 0-3 against the spread – but they have upgraded their coaching staff this offseason with Ron Rivera, etc.
