2026 Fantasy Football DST rankings: Four defenses appear in Tier 1 and are worth prioritizing late in drafts
We're ranking defense/special teams units for 2026 Fantasy Football leagues in tiers, and strategy is key
The DST position -- or defense/special teams for the anti-brevity crowd -- is always a strange one to rank for me for Fantasy football drafts. Typically when we rank players, we're trying to roughly predict how the points leaderboard at a given position will look at the end of the season.
DST is different, because there are only a few options I would consider playing every week no matter their opponent. In all honesty, DST rankings might be better if once you get past those few options, they read something like "5. Whoever is playing the Dolphins" and so forth. What that means for Fantasy drafts is that aside from a few top-tier units, you shouldn't get attached to anyone, and you should be prepared to surf the waiver wire for your DSTs throughout the season.
The effect of that strategy means that after our Tier 1 options below, the remaining units are not ranked by how I believe they'll finish the season in full, but rather which units I think are the best to own in Week 1. That means you'll find some teams I'd put in the overall top 10 this season as undraftable, while others with great early matchups on the schedule are much higher. Let's get into those tiers now.
