2025 South Point 400 odds, NASCAR picks: Best bets for the Round of 8 race from proven racing expert

CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto reveals his NASCAR picks to SportsLine for the 2025 Las Vegas Motor Speedway South Point 400 on Sunday

ByUpdated: Oct 09, 2025 10:35PM UTC . 3 min read

The first leg of the Round of 8 playoffs will be held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 on Sunday. Shane Van Gisbergen won the final leg of the Round of 12 last week. Denny Hamlin is atop the playoff standings at +8, Ryan Blaney at +6 and Kyle Larson and William Byron at +4 to lead the eight remaining drivers in the postseason, which is comprised of four rounds over the final 10 races of the season. Four drivers are eliminated in each of the first three rounds, which consist of three races each. The remaining four drivers compete for the title in the season-ending championship race.

Larson is the +450 favorite (risk $100 to win $450) in the 2025 Las Vegas Motor Speedway 400 odds, while Christopher Bell is at +500, Hamlin is at +650, Blaney is at +750, and William Byron at +850. Other NASCAR at Las Vegas Motor Speedway contenders include Joey Logano at +900, and Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott and Chase Briscoe, all at +1200. Sunday's race is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Before making any Las Vegas Motor Speedway 400 picks, you NEED to see what CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto has to say.

Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com. Taranto was red-hot for SportsLine in 2024 as he nailed 17 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Chase Elliott at Texas. Anybody following his NASCAR picks could have seen HUGE returns!

For the Las Vegas Motor Speedway race, Taranto is high on Tyler Reddick (+1200). He also has a head-to-head prop bet, with Chase Briscoe (-115) to finish ahead of Chase Elliott (-115). "This head- to-head matchup is a tossup between the two Chases, which is fitting considering they enter this race tied in the Round of 8 standings at 14 points below the cut line. Elliott won the last time NASCAR raced on an intermediate oval at Kansas two weeks ago, and his 10th place finish in the spring was far superior to Briscoe's 17th, but keep in mind that the last time Briscoe was performing at nearly the level he is now, he swept the season at Las Vegas by winning both Xfinity Series races there in 2020.

"Briscoe also ran fourth in this race back in the fall of 2022, a result far superior to any that Elliott has had at Las Vegas since the Next Gen car was introduced (his best Vegas finish in the Next Gen era is a ninth in the spring of '22). The odds here will allow you to take your pick, but I'd lean strongly towards picking Briscoe if pressed to do so."

Taranto has also identified three other drivers in his 2025 Las Vegas Motor Speedway 400 best bets. He's also high on a huge NASCAR longshot who's around 75-1, potentially netting any backer a HUGE payday! You ABSOLUTELY NEED to see his picks before locking in any NASCAR picks of your own.
