The 2023 Formula 1 season will continue on Sunday with the 2023 Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza just outside Milan in Italy. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 9 a.m. ET. Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen will have a chance to make history on Sunday as he enters the week having tied Sebastian Vettel's record with nine consecutive grand prix wins.

Verstappen has won 11 of the first 13 races and has opened up an outlandish 138-point lead in the F1 standings, so it comes as no surprise that he's the -400 (bet $400 to win $100) favorite in the 2023 Italian Grand Prix odds. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez is listed at 9-1 and is followed by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton at 18-1 in the Italian GP odds. SportsLine's proven computer projection model simulated the Dutch GP 2023 10,000 times and come up with a surprising leaderboard.

Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model takes into account a slew of factors including track history and recent results.

The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Leclerc's wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprising victory.

It followed that up by calling Verstappen's win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and nailed Verstappen to win in Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi. It has also called all 11 of Verstappen's wins to start the 2023 season. Anyone who followed the model's lead on those plays has seen HUGE returns!

The Monza Circuit is the oldest purpose-built racing circuit in mainland Europe and the third-oldest in the world behind Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Brooklands in England. The 11-turn, 3.6-mile course is known affectionately as "The Temple of Speed" because of its several lengthy straightaways. The track has hosted the Italian Grand Prix almost consecutively since 1950, with one race in 1980 held at Imola while the track was being renovated. In recent years, the track has been known for its relative unpredictability, with five different manufacturers winning in the last five years. However, Verstappen did capture his first Italian Grand Prix victory as the favorite last season.

Now, the model has dialed in on the 2023 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix and just released its coveted picks and leaderboard projections.

We can tell you the model is fading McLaren's Oscar Piastri even though he is tied for seventh favorite at 33-1. The 22-year-old Australian is a Formula 1 rookie but he's been surging in the weekly F1 odds with McLaren making enormous progress in the middle portion of the season. Piastri and teammate Lando Norris were both top five in Great Britain and Hungary to revive the team's season.

However, it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing from there. Piastri was retired in Belgium before the summer break and barely cracked the points last week in the Netherlands, finishing ninth. He's also been outside the points in eight of the 13 races so far this season and hasn't yet earned a podium finish. That makes it hard to justify a price that would seem to indicate he's a genuine contender in the event of a Verstappen slip up but the model predicts he barely cracks the top 10.

The model is also targeting one driver getting over 33-1 Italian Grand Prix odds to make a serious charge up the leaderboard! Anyone who backs this driver could hit it BIG. You ABSOLUTELY need to see who he is before locking in any Formula 1 Italian GP picks of your own.

So who wins the 2023 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix? And which SERIOUS long shot might be in contention? ... Join SportsLine right now to see the full projected F1 Italian GP leaderboard, all from the model that has nailed its racing picks the last two years, and find out!
