2022 NBA win total odds reset: Pistons now favored to finish with league's worst record
The Detroit Pistons have the lowest reset Over/Under win total for this season.
Keep in mind that the NBA lottery nowadays doesn't give the team that finished with the worst record the best chance of winning the lottery. Instead, the teams with the three-worst records have an equal 14 percent shot. On the reset betting win totals entering the second half (although the All-Star break was technically way past the halfway point), the Detroit Pistons have the lowest number at Over/Under 18.5 – they had the third-lowest total entering the season at 24.5.
Detroit and Orlando (now set at 19.5 wins) are tied for the league's worst record at 13-45, although the Pistons have the NBA's worst point differential at minus-10.
In a bit of a surprise, the Pistons didn't deal leading scorer Jerami Grant at the Trade Deadline, so they might not be THAT bad the rest of the way with Grant and rookie No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham continuing to improve. Cunningham was named MVP of Friday's Rising Stars Challenge tournament at the All-Star Game, for what that's worth. Detroit did end Boston's nine-game winning streak right before the break. The Pistons open the second half Thursday at home vs. Cleveland.
Going by the new win totals, the Pistons, Magic and Houston Rockets (21.5 reset win total) would be the three teams with the equal top chance of winning the 2022 NBA Draft lottery. Most experts believe the top pick will be one of three freshmen: Duke's Paolo Banchero, Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren or Auburn's Jabari Smith.
Houston has the third-worst record at 15-43. Rookie No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green has been up and down but has scored in double digits in each of the past 10 games while averaging 15.9 ppg.
The Rockets, Pistons and Magic finished with the three-worst records last season (shortened to 72 games) with Detroit obviously winning the lottery, Houston picking No. 2 and Orlando slipping to No. 5 and selecting Jalen Suggs. Orlando had the lowest win total entering this season at 22.5.
The Phoenix Suns, who may not have All-Star guard Chris Paul the rest of the season, have the NBA's best record at 48-10 but books are keeping their reset win total off the board due to Paul's injury. Phoenix could also simply not care the final week or two of the regular season if it has the top record in the league clinched.
