2021 British Open odds, tee times, (surprisingly nice) weather forecast at Royal St George's: Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka not paired first 2 rounds

Ready for some very early-morning golf from the 149th British Open?

By@jordanpaytonsn1Updated: Jul 13, 2021 2:44PM UTC . 7 min read

In this writer's mind, the two things that make the British Open stand out from the other three major championships annually on the PGA/European Tours are the fact we get very early morning golf to watch/wager on Eastern time and the weather is usually a huge factor. Alas, the latter doesn't appear to be the case for this week's 149th Open Championship at Royal St. George's in Sandwich, England. Spain's Jon Rahm, who lost the world No. 1 ranking over the weekend, remains the +700 favorite at William Hill Sportsbook.

Let's start with the question that everyone asks now whenever the feuding Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are playing in the same tournament: Are they playing together? Sadly, the answer is no for the first two rounds. Koepka will tee off at 3:03 a.m. Eastern on Thursday with Jason Kokrak and Garrick Higgo.

All three of those guys are looking to win the British Open for the first time. Koepka (+1600) does have three Top 10s in the Open Championship and is the +800 favorite as top American finisher. The South African Higgo (+6600) has three worldwide wins – two on the European Tour, one in the USA -- since the start of April but is struggling of late and just missed the cut in Scotland last week. Higgo is a +250 second-favorite to be the highest-finishing left-hander behind Scotland's Robert MacIntyre (+200) but ahead of 2013 champion Phil Mickelson (+300).

DeChambeau (+1400) tees off at 4:25 a.m. Eastern – all players tee off from the first hole; no split tees in the British Open – on Thursday with Jordan Spieth and Branden Grace. DeChambeau has yet to contend in three British Opens. Spieth (+2000) won in 2017 and has two other Top 10s.

As for the weather, it almost looks more like San Diego than Sandwich this weekend with barely a chance of rain. There will be some winds at the coastal town in southeast England but nothing too crazy. Weather definitely was a factor in 2011 when Royal St. George's last hosted the Open Championship and Darren Clarke was a surprise winner.

  • Thursday -- Generally clear, 17 percent chance of rain. High 72 degrees. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph.
  • Friday -- Partly cloudy, 10 percent chance of rain. High 68 degrees. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph.
  • Saturday – Mostly sunny, 12 percent chance of rain. High 68 degrees. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph.
  • Sunday – Mostly sunny, 12 percent chance of rain. High 70 degrees. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph.
