With the college hoops season starting Friday, now is the time to get in on futures action to win the national title.

In making these plays, it pays to remember what happened last season. Villanova was a team that got hot at the right time.

The Wildcats played much better basketball, especially on the offensive end, than they did on a game-to-game basis in the regular season.

Looking beyond the favorites at William Hill sports books, here are four teams capable of making deep charges in the NCAA Tournament:

    INDIANA 30/1

Are the Hoosiers flying a bit under the radar? After winning the Big Ten last season, the Hoosiers remain a high-impact team. Their style of play is a difference maker in their conference and one that transfers well to tournament action.

Indiana will again be explosive offensively, led by preseason All-American center Thomas Bryant (11.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and guard James Blackmon Jr. (15.8 ppg).

    OREGON 10/1

After losing a couple of nonconference games last season, the Ducks played superior basketball in the Pac-12. They garnered a No. 1 seed, only to falter in the tourney against Oklahoma.

Back for the Ducks are several impact players, including Tyler Dorsey and Dillon Brooks. And last month, former Villanova guard Dylan Ennis received a sixth year of eligibility.

    VIRGINIA 40/1

The Cavaliers did lose talent to graduation such as Mike Tobey and Malcolm Brogdon. Yet, coach Tony Bennett has done a great job in recruiting players who fit his system.

Guad Landon Perrantes remains along with a budding rising talent in Darius Thompson. One of the biggest keys to Virginia remaining strong lies with Memphis transfer Austin Nichols being eligible.

    UCONN 40/1

To ascend in March, you need a dynamic backcourt. The Huskies have that with freshman Alterique Gilbert and one of the more electrifying players in the country in Jalen Adams.

UConn also has seniors in Rodney Purvis and rim protector Amidah Brimah. Terry Larrier, a 6-8 transfer from VCU, provides length on defense and scoring punch.
