Tiger Woods second-round 2023 Masters odds: Five-time winner now favored to miss cut, tee times moved up due to stormy weather forecast Friday

Tiger Woods needs a good round Friday at the Masters to make the cut.

The 2023 Masters marks the 25th time five-time champion Tiger Woods has participated in the tournament, and he has missed the cut at Augusta National just once -- in 1996 following rounds of 75-75. The next year, he then obliterated Augusta by shooting a tournament-record (since broken) 18 under to win for the first time. Woods shot 74 to open this year's Masters, and he's now -170 at Circa Sports to miss the cut and +150 to play the weekend.

Needless to say, the cut line will be shifting around all day Friday and weather is going to be a factor – frankly, it might be an upset if every golfer finishes Round 2 today because of incoming rain. Woods is scheduled to tee off at 12:54 p.m. ET, once again alongside Viktor Hovland (who was the co-leader entering Round 2) and Xander Schauffele.

According to Weather.com, it will be cloudy all morning and then thunderstorms could roll in around 1 p.m. ET. The rain might last until Sunday. The winds also will pick up at Augusta today around 5 p.m. ET (NNE at 15 mph). Thus, all tee times were moved up 30 minutes.

This year's pre-tournament projected cutline was 4-over 148; last year, the cut was 149. With the smallest field of any major, the Masters also has a smaller field on the weekend because in 2020 the cut rule was changed to where the top 50 and ties (it's usually top 65 and ties at other events) play the weekend. Woods entered Round 2, which has already started, tied for 54th.

Woods' 74 was his worst opening round at the Masters since 2005 as he tries to make the cut for a record-tying 23rd straight time. His only worse position after 18 holes was T57 in 1996, which as mentioned was his lone previous time not making the cut. Last year, he shot a first-round 71 en route to finishing 47th. Woods' putter was not very cooperative on Thursday and he appeared to grimace in pain at least a few times.

"I didn't have very good speed early," Woods said. "I had two three-putts and consequently a couple over par. (Thursday) was the opportune time to get the round under par, and I didn't do that," Woods said. "Most of the guys are going low (Thursday). This was the day to do it. Hopefully, (Friday) I'll be a little bit better, a little bit sharper and kind of inch my way through it. This is going to be an interesting finish to the tournament with the weather coming in. If I can just kind of hang in there, maybe kind of inch my way back."

FanDuel has an updated over/under cut score with +2 or better at -200 and +3 or worse at +150. Woods is +2700 to have a bogey-free round. He had five bogeys in Round 1. Caesars gives him an O/U second-round score of 73.5, with the Under a -135 favorite.
