2023 PGA Championship tee times, weather forecast at Oak Hill: Favorites Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler tee off early Thursday morning

The PGA Championship visits Oak Hill for the fourth time.

The PGA Championship always has the strongest field of the year on the PGA Tour, and that's the case this week – sans Tiger Woods – at Oak Hill in New York for the second major championship with 99 of the world's top 100 golfers set to play. Scottie Scheffler (+650) and Jon Rahm (+700), the past two Masters winners, are the betting favorites at Caesars Sportsbook to win the Wanamaker Trophy for the first time and both go out in Round 1 early Thursday morning.

The last time Oak Hill's East Course in Pittsford, N.Y., hosted the PGA Championship was in 2013 when American Jason Dufner won by two at 10-under 270. It's not clear how the par-70, 7,400-yard track will play this year considering it was completely renovated in 2020. The course is about 250 yards longer than it was in 2013 and there are three holes that are totally new. Each of the 18 greens and every bunker were rebuilt.

Scheffler, ranked No. 2 in the world and with two victories already under his belt this season, will tee off Thursday at the 10th tee at 8 a.m. alongside two-time PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka (+1800) of the LIV Tour and big-hitting Gary Woodland (+10000).

World No. 1 Rahm will tee off the 10th tee at 8:33 a.m. Thursday with Matt Fitzpatrick (+3500 to win) and Cameron Smith (+2800) – the winners of the last three majors overall after Rahm won this year's Masters. He has four PGA Tour wins this season, but no player from Spain has won the PGA Championship.

Justin Thomas is the defending champion after beating Will Zalatoris in a playoff last year at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Thomas' second PGA Championship win. He's +2800 this week. Zalatoris is the only top-100 player not in the field this week, as he is out for the remainder of the season after having back surgery.

The lone player trying to complete the career Grand Slam this week is Jordan Spieth, who is +4000. He will try to play after withdrawing from last week's Bryon Nelson in his native Texas with a wrist injury. This marks the seventh attempt for Spieth to win the career slam, which only five players have accomplished.

Rory McIlroy is  +275 at DraftKings as the top former winner, with 54-year-old Shaun Micheel the +30000 long shot. McIlroy has won the event twice, most recently in 2014, and Micheel came out of nowhere to win in 2003 (also at Oak Hill) when he was ranked No. 169 in the world. Micheel has never won again on Tour.

That the tournament goes to a playoff is +360 on the margin of victory prop at Caesars. The playoff would be a three-hole aggregate. If still tied, the format moves to sudden death. That there's a wire-to-wire winner is yes-only at +1100.

The weather at Oak Hill looks pretty good, other than potential showers on Saturday. Courtesy of weather.com:
