2023 Masters tee times, weather forecast, odds, props: Three-time Green Jacket winner Phil Mickelson, struggling on LIV Tour, nearly even money to miss the cut

Phil Mickelson returns to the Masters after taking last year off.

After all the backlash three-time champion Phil Mickelson received this time last year for supporting the breakaway Saudi-funded LIV Tour, he decided to take a golf hiatus and skip the Masters but was not uninvited. It was purely his choice. Mickelson is back this year as part of a group of 18 LIV golfers in the field. He is -110 to miss the cut and -130 to make advance at DraftKings. Mickelson tees off at 12:24 p.m. ET in Round 1 Thursday. He last missed the cut in 2016. Click here for model sims.

Clearly, Mickelson doesn't want to address last year as he declined to take part in any of the official pre-tournament Masters press conferences. The only LIV golfer who did is Cameron Smith. This will be the 30th Masters for Mickelson, who won here in 2004, '06 and '10. He also was runner-up in 2015 and had third-place results in 1996, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2012. The World Golf Hall of Fame member won the Silver Cup as Low Amateur in his Masters debut in 1991.

At age 52, Mickelson has dropped to 425th in the Official World Golf Ranking but can play The Masters as long as he wants as a former champion. So far this season, Mickelson has yet to crack the top 25 in the three LIV events he's played in. His average finishing position in the 10 events he's played since joining the league is 31.3 and there are only 48 players per field.

Mickelson was T21 in the 2021 Masters and is +35000 to win this week. To be the fop finishing left-hander, he's +275, ahead of Mike Weir (+1000) but behind Brian Harman (+160) and two-time winner and fellow LIV player Bubba Watson (+170). As top former champion, Mickelson is +3000. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is the +160 favorite there.

Mickelson is playing with fellow American Tom Hoge and Korea's Si Woo Kim the first two rounds. That a LIV player wins this week is +850 with the rest of the field at -500 via FanDuel.

Augusta National, which has been lengthened this year thanks to a 35-yard addition of a new tee box on the par-3 13th hole, is a relatively hilly course that plays harder when precipitation and cold temperatures are involved -- and that could be the case this week. Here's the forecast from weather.com.

    • Thursday: Cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 86F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
    • Friday: Showers early, becoming a steady rain later in the day. High 74F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall around a quarter of an inch.
