2023 British Open golf odds, tee times, weather forecast: Favored Rory McIlroy starts Thursday late morning with Jon Rahm, Justin Rose; rain and wind possible all weekend at Royal Liverpool

The Grand Slam portion of the PGA Tour season comes to an end this week with the 151st staging of the British Open, the oldest and most prestigious golf tournament in the world. Weather is usually factor in this event and apparently could be all weekend at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England. Fresh off a win last week at the Scottish Open, Rory McIlroy is the +575 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook and goes off in a star-studded threesome Thursday at 9:59 a.m. ET with fellow major winners Jon Rahm and Justin Rose.

It's the 13th time that Royal Liverpool has hosted the Open Championship. McIlroy won it last time in 2014 at a 17-under 271, two up on Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia. McIlroy led wire-to-wire for his third third career Grand Slam title. He won No. 4 the following month in 2014 at the PGA Championship – back when it was held in August – but hasn't won a major since.

McIlroy got PGA Tour career win No. 24 and his second this season on Sunday at the Scottish Open, which is co-sponsored by the PGA and DP World Tours. McIlroy has four top-five finishes at the British Open since his first Claret Jug, including last year. He finished runner-up in three majors since claiming a second Wanamaker Trophy at the 2014 PGA Championship. McIlroy had a share of the lead heading into the final round at St. Andrews last year but shot a 70 and finished two behind winner Cameron Smith.

Rahm is +1200 to win the British Open. He won the Masters in April, and the last player to win both events in the same year was Tiger Woods in 2005. Rose is +5500 to win his first Claret Jug. He was the runner-up in 2018. Eight of the last nine major champions in men's golf have been in their 20s, with Brooks Koepka's PGA Championship this year the exception. Rose is 42.

Note that Royal Liverpool has undergone major changes since 2014, including an entirely new par-3 17th where a par-4 used to stand. The course is now a par-71 (down from 72) at 7,313 yards.
