Clay Helton's GSU not giving backers much to shout about in a disappointing 2-3 start that has seen the Eagles already lose three games by 25 points or more. There are some real structural flaws on defense that helton can't mask, especially vs. the run, where GSU ranks bottom nationally, allowing nearly 263 ypg, and a whopping 6.5 ypc. The defense overall ranks 133rd out of 134...not good. Meanwhile, Charles Huff is getting USM starting to look like his Marshall team that won the Sun Belt last year. Many of the same players are now Golden Eagles, including QB Braylon Braxton, who transferred from the Herd to Hattiesburg. Play USM

Two pretty bad Sun Belt teams with Southern Miss losing its only road game so far by double digits and Georgia Southern 2-0 at home but against a soft slate. In fact, USM is 0-7 SU and 1-6 ATS away since the start of last year, outscored by more than 28.4 PPG. Meanwhile, GSU has won three straight Thursday games at home and it will be a "Blue Out" in Statesboro. Georgia Southern starting defensive tackle Caleb Moore played in 10 games last season for Southern Miss before transferring. Senior defensive back Chance Gamble will make his season debut off injury for one of the worst units in the country.
