I am not worried about the Jackson Arnold Revenge Game. Brent Venables does an incredible job of game-planning against every QB, and he has plenty of familiarity with Arnold's weaknesses, as well as an incredible defense at his disposal. Meanwhile, Auburn's defense has struggled with scrambling QBs, which is something John Mateer can take advantage of.
Oklahoma’s defense has been one of the best in the country this early in the season. The Sooners defense is allowing the opposing quarterback to complete only 46% of their passes thus far. Good thing for Auburn then because they don’t have much of a passing game as they’re a run heavy team. The Tigers defense has been solid with this being their first big test. Oklahoma won last year on the road, but Auburn is 14-7 ATS when playing with revenge against a conference opponent.
It's the Jackson Arnold game against his old OU team! There are other angles, especially as the upcoming schedule suggests Auburn better win, as heavyweights are lined up behind the Sooners. Don't read much into defensive stats, either; playing from ahead the whole game at Baylor allowed the Bears to pile passing yards; we more liked the fact that Auburn kept the lead all the way and wrapped up the game with that 75-yard drive, after Baylor pulled to 7, and Hugh Freeze's offense will work better with Jackson Arnold than it did with less-mobile Payton Thorne. OU did win at Jordan-Hare last year, and that was with Hawkins at QB, not Arnold, but better Freeze teams have been spiky underdogs before. Play Auburn.
