If Bill Belichick were not coaching Carolina, it seems as if this spread would be closer to a touchdown than a field goal. Of course, if anyone can mastermind an upset, it is Wild Bill. However, he must fit 40 transfers into a new system — and against a ready-made team coming off a nine-win season. The Horned Frogs’ gifted defensive front should bedevil an O-line already thinned out by injuries. TCU’s seasoned secondary is a likely antidote for new QB Gio Lopez. The Frogs have no concerns about their QB, the standout Josh Hoover. Not to be overlooked is that college football is a different animal than the NFL. Even the pro GOAT might need time to adjust.
So much buzz about Bill Belichick's debut at UNC that we seem to be forgetting about the team on the other side. While this is effectively a brand-new roster for the Tar Heels, many are overlooking how dangerous visiting TCU might be. The Frogs were just a few plays from a 10 or 11-win season a year ago and Sonny Dykes returns a real gunslinger at QB in Josh Hoover, who passed for nearly 4,000 yards last fall. Perhaps Belichick has the element of surprise working in his favor, but would rather ride the battle-tested Frogs and their familiar QB than take a shot with Belichick and his QB Gio Lopez, who didn't arrive from South Alabama until after spring practices.
All eyes on Bill Belichick for this Chapel Hill opener that next season will take place in Ireland. We've found no consensus on UNC prospects from ACC sources, though our own thought is that Belichick has at least had time to take a look at what TCU was doing last season with Josh Hoover at QB, an edge that Sonny Dykes doesn't have on the TCU side. Still, the Heels might look choppy in the early going, as QB Gio Lopez came from South Alabama after spring practice, and his snaps in organized work with the team have come only in fall camp. Most of the featured games landed under in the first week and suspect this one might as well. Play TCU-North Carolina Under
