Games between military academies tend to be close, but Air Force may be the worst team in the FBS. The Falcons (1-3), who returned virtually no one from last season, have lost three in a row, including last week at Wyoming as the favorite. Meanwhile, Navy (4-0) is averaging 46.0 points a game this season, which includes a win against Memphis. Give me the Midshipmen.
The under is 13-4-1 since 2005 between these two. However, this Navy offense is different under Drew Cronic. They’re averaging 45 points a game while holding opponent to less than 25 points. The Falcons offense has averaged seven points at home this season and allowing their opponents 312 total yards and Navy is averaging 476. The Midshipmen offense has been a different animal and could hit the over themselves.
Betting the under in games between the service academies has been the best retirement strategy for Americans in the last 20 years. You don't need a 401K when you have option offenses.
Air Force is having a down year, while Navy may be head towards double-digit wins. The Midshipmen are averaging 46 points per game this season, and could blow past this number by themselves.
Every year there seems to be one service academy team that is significantly better than the others. For me, this year's team that fits that billing is Navy. Air Force is in the midst of an uncharacteristic down season, while the Midshipmen have been rolling. Navy is averaging 46 points per game to open the season, and a 10-win season is very realistic for Brian Newberry's team. Crazy things have happened in these Commander-in-Chief rivalry games, but I believe this Navy team is substantially better than this year's Air Force team.
