Through two weeks Texas very much looks the part of national title contender. The Horns are elite on both sides of the ball, and have one of the best offensive lines in college football. UTSA is in a sort of transition year, and is far from the team they were from 2021-2023. The Roadrunners were blown out by Texas State last week, and if we're being honest, the Horns' third string group is likely two touchdowns better than UTSA. I have the Longhorns by 40+ here.
Texas looks like the most polished team in the nation and diced through Michigan like they were nothing. They could have scored 50 at Michigan but called off the dogs. I think a lot of their upfront success has to do with four returning starters on the offensive line and having Quinn Ewers throwing the ball at the right time and at the right spots. They beat Colorado State in the opener 52-0 and that's kind of what I see here with UTSA who got beat 49-10 at Texas State last week. It's a lot of points to lay but it's a team looking to impress and they're going to score as much as they can. Texas covers.
You're going to hear people say that the Longhorns, who are coming off a dominating 31-12 win at No. 10 Michigan on Saturday, are due for a letdown. They'll cite last year when Texas had a close call against Wyoming, one week after winning at Alabama. But here's why that's faulty thinking this week: This year's Longhorns are deep; the second- and third-stringers come in to run up the score, not just run out the clock. Texas should be a covering machine all season. Also, the Roadrunners are in a transition phase this season after losing quarterback Frank Harris. They lost by 39 to Texas State last week. Let that sink in. This my first two-unit play of the season. Longhorns roll.
