The Wolverines are (surprisingly, at least to me) the public side over a top-tier SEC team in this spot, but it’s the right side. These programs are mirrors of one another with strong fronts, efficient running games and passing attacks that can be effective in doses. Michigan has been underrated all season and is not only 11-2 ATS overall but 5-0 ATS since November. It’s notable that, despite two thirds of public money coming in for Michigan, the line (including a hook) has been unchanged. This is going to be a hard-fought game that falls inside the number. Michigan is worth a moneyline sprinkle, too.
This pick feels a little too popular, but it's the right side to be on. Nothing about what you've seen from Michigan is a fluke. The team you saw crush Ohio State was the same team the Wolverines were all season. On the other side, just because Georgia lost to Alabama doesn't mean it was a fraud. It's really good too! Both of these teams are, which is why I don't see either one being able to pull away from the other no matter who wins, so if I can get 7.5 points, I'm going to take them.
A search of predicted scores for this matchup finds a consensus in the area of 20-17 and 24-14. Such thinking overlooks the likelihood that both coaching staffs will roll out new looks on offense. The unobliging defenses, especially Georgia’s, are no secret. But Michigan topped the nation for plays of 50-plus yards and ranked 10th in rush offense. The Wolverines made all but two field goal tries. Georgia welcomes back George Pickett, its projected go-to receiver whose springtime knee injury wiped out his season. Over is the play.
Huge news for Michigan tonight as All-Big Ten defensive back Daxton Hill, an expected NFL first-round pick, arrived in Miami, meaning he should play vs. the Dawgs. It was never made clear why Hill didn't originally fly down with the team, but one doesn't exactly have to read between the lines these days. Hill is the highest-ranked recruit on the entire roster and maybe U-M's second-most important player on that side of the ball behind Aidan Hutchinson.
To me, these two teams are one and the same. It will come down to which quarterback can make plays consistently. Both teams will be stellar at the point of attack, and both will have to be able to make plays off script. Expect a stalemate throughout, and it should ultimately come down to a single score late in the game.
