California Baptist has had one of the more home friendly schedules in college basketball to start the season 6-0. Tonight will mark just their second road game of the season against Oregon State. While I’m impressed with the Lancers size and guard Dominique Daniels tonight seems like a slip up spot post holiday. Back the home team here in Oregon State.
All indicators are that this doesn't seem to shaping up as a fireworks show in Corvallis tonight. Much of that to do with visiting Cal Baptist, well-drilled under HC Rick Croy and looking perhaps the team to beat in the WAC. At 6-0, the Lancers have star power in G Dominique Daniels (19 ppg), but the key to their unbeaten start has been defense, allowing just a tick above 59 ppg in the last five games. This would seem a real issue for the host Beavers, as Wayne Tinkle's offense has bogged down in a 4-game losing streak, and could use more weaponry as HG Josiah Lake is the only double-digit scorer at 12.4 ppg. Rick Croy's Cal Baptist looks like the team to beat in the WAC, already flying at 6-0 this season with five wins by double digits, plus perhaps the most impressive effort when winning by 8 at UC Irvine. The Lancers are also allowing a tick over 59 ppg across their last five as their discipline works to their favor, while sr. G Dominique Daniels (19 ppg) is an established go-to threat. Meanwhile, Wayne Tinkle might be coaching himself into some hot water at OSU with four straight losses and coming home empty from the Virgin Islands Tourney. The Beavs need more offensive options as the only double-digit scorer at the moment is G Josiah Lake at 12.4 ppg. Play CBU
