It's been a tough start this season for ECU, as the Pirates have now stumbled to three consecutive double-digit defeats after Wednesday's 33-point drubbing by Michigan State. The problems are easy to identify; the Pirates aren't stretching the floor because of their inconsistencies shooting the 3-balls. To wit: ECU is hitting a very subpar 23.4% beyond the arc, barely registering, inviting opponents to sag off on the perimeter. Foes can also concentrate on 6-4 G Jordan Riley (17.4 ppg), the only consistent ECU scoring threat. Meanwhile, Mark Schmidt doing his normal thing at Bona, which pushed North Carolina on Thursday, and has added a livewire in Gardner-Webb transfer G Darryl Simmons II, scoring at a brisk 19.2 ppg clip.
