Tua Tagovailoa injury drastically affects Alabama national title odds

The biggest news around college football in Week 12 was Alabama losing star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a season-ending hip injury in a win over Mississippi State on Saturday. Should Tua even have been in the game with the Tide owning a 35-7 lead in the second quarter? Well, that's a question for another day. He had surgery on Monday for a dislocated hip and posterior wall fracture.
It not only ends his season but might affect where Tua is selected in April's NFL Draft – assuming he still declares. The southpaw will not be ready for the NFL Combine, for example. Tagovailoa is a sensational player and will join a short list of best-ever players to never win a Heisman, but the Hawaiian has proven a bit brittle. This is already his second surgery this season. He had surgery on his right ankle Oct. 20, a day after he was injured in the Crimson Tide's 35-13 victory over Tennessee. Tua also had ankle surgery last season.
Alabama had been +1000 on the FanDuel college football futures odds to win the national title but is now +3000 despite the easy win over Mississippi State. How much will the College Football Playoff committee take Tua's injury into consideration? The Tide were No. 5 in in the most recent rankings and figure to stay there because everyone in front of them won Saturday. Alabama has a glorified scrimmage this week against Western Carolina and will be a massive favorite on the NCAA odds (most books don't post opening lines when an FBS school plays an FCS one).
Clemson and Ohio State are the co-title favorites at +200. The Tigers rolled Wake Forest on Saturday and the Buckeyes did the same to Rutgers. The Tigers are off this week before visiting South Carolina, while OSU hosts Penn State in the game of the week. Ohio State is a shockingly big 18-point home favorite.
