2023 Heisman Trophy Week 13 odds: LSU's Jayden Daniels has last chance Saturday vs. Texas A&M to extend betting lead over Bo Nix, Michael Penix

Heisman Trophy ballots go out to voters next Monday and they are due the following Monday, Dec. 4, which is when the 2023 finalists will be announced. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels enters Week 13 as the -120 Heisman favorite at DraftKings, but Daniels and the Tigers close their regular season against unranked Texas A&M on Saturday Daniels' two closest competitors, Oregon's Bo Nix  (+140) and Washington's Michael Penix Jr. (+650), both should have two more games to impress Heisman voters.

LSU will not play in the SEC title game for the second  year in a row, so Saturday's game in Baton Rouge is Daniels' final chance to make an impression on voters. The Tigers are currently 11-point favorites against the Aggies. This past Saturday in a 56-14 win over Georgia State, Daniels threw for 413 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 92 yards and two scores. He tied Joe Burrow's LSU record from the 2019 College Football Playoff semifinal with eight total touchdowns in a game. Daniels also set the school record with his seventh game over 400 total yards in a season. Burrow had six in 2019 when he won the Heisman. Daniels also became the first player in LSU history with at least five passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the same game.

The Arizona State transfer became the 11th player in FBS history with at least 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a season. It's the 22nd time an LSU player has rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season. Daniels is the 16th individual player and the first quarterback to do it.

The Tigers scored touchdowns to finish all eight of the possessions for which Daniels was leading the offense against Georgia State. It was the second time in program history that three receivers – Malik Nabers (140), Brian Thomas Jr. (103) and Kyren Lacy (101) – each posted more than 100 receiving yards.

"I think he's the best player in college football and every opportunity I get I'm going to make sure people understand that," Coach Brian Kelly said of Daniels. "His efficiency, the way he takes over the game. If you're on the other sideline how do you defend him? They tried to blitz him and that didn't work. They dropped eight in the fourth quarter and that didn't work."

It's certainly not out of the question that Saturday is Daniels' last NCAA game as more and more top-rated players are skipping non-playoff bowl games to prepare for the NFL Draft. Daniels is a +7500 longshot to be picked No. 1 overall at DraftKings.

The Huskies' Penix Jr. is guaranteed two more games. Unbeaten Washington has clinched a spot in the Pac-12 title game regardless of what happens in Saturday's Apple Cup against Washington State. It seems hard to fathom that Penix wouldn't win the Heisman if he was to lead the Huskies to the Pac-12 title and an unbeaten regular season. Penix did struggle against a good Oregon State defense and the elements in Saturday's 22-20 win, completing just 13 of 28 passes for 162 yards, but he threw for two scores and ran for another.

Nix and the Ducks will get to the Pac-12 title game opposite Washington with a win in the Civil War on Saturday in Eugene against the Beavers. An Arizona loss to Arizona State would also secure a berth for Oregon. Nix was outstanding in Saturday's win over Arizona State, completing 24 of 29 for 404 yards and six scores. The former Auburn transfer leads the nation with a stellar 78.1 completion percentage, on pace to break the FBS single-season record of 77.4 set by Alabama's Mac Jones in 2020.

If both Washington and Oregon take care of business this week (as they should) to set up a Pac-12 title matchup, the game would likely also decide the Heisman winner. Daniels needs a monster finale and perhaps both the Huskies and Ducks to lose once (or more in Oregon's case) for his best chance.

No other player is below +4000 on the odds board.
