Group Launches Campaign to Oppose Possible Expansion of Indiana Casinos to Fort Wayne
The "Save Fort Wayne" campaign is calling for a public referendum on whether Allen County, Indiana, could become a host site for a physical casino.
Legislation in Indianapolis could expand the number of land-based casinos in Indiana targeting Allen County or allow for the relocation of an existing licensee into Allen County. While municipal leaders have expressed support for more gaming in the Fort Wayne area, a new group claiming to represent local residents has launched an opposition campaign regarding more gaming in the county.

"Save Fort Wayne" calls for local vote on gaming
According to Tom Powell of 21 Alive News, the opposition group calls itself "Save Fort Wayne" and claims to be "comprised of local professionals in the finance and business sectors." A statement from the group clarifies that members "have chosen to remain anonymous to protect our professional careers."
Save Fort Wayne stresses that its primary objective is the establishment of a local referendum on whether Allen County could host a casino. The group's website lists doubts about claims of economic development that a casino could bring to the Fort Wayne area.
At this time, competing bills in Indiana's capitol would either allow the Rising Star Casino to relocate to Allen County or establish a new gaming license for Allen County specifically. Fort Wayne is Indiana's second-most populous city.
In the absence of legislation that could legalize online casino sites for real money in Indiana, the inclusion of Fort Wayne as a casino city in Indiana could be the most prominent gaming-related issue in state government in 2026. Municipal officials in Allen County have publicly supported the premise.

Local leaders pushing for bill passage
Powell reports that Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker, along with the entirety of the Allen County Board of Commissioners, signed onto a letter to state legislators endorsing expanded gaming in the region. The letter claims that a casino in or around Fort Wayne would "help improve mental health and combat homelessness, addiction, and other challenges," calling the casino a vital new revenue stream for the affected communities.
Those sentiments echo a Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce website's content in support of bringing a casino to the city. However, Save Fort Wayne cites its own "study" that suggests a casino in the region would be a net harm and any economic benefits would be minimal.
