FanDuel will no longer accept credit cards as a payment method as of March 2, 2026
FanDuel announced on Wednesday that it will no longer process attempted deposits with or remit withdrawal requests to users' credit cards.
Credit cards continue to fall out of favor as a funding source for legal online gaming in the United States, as one of the biggest companies in the space, FanDuel, has updated its payment methods to exclude credit cards. The decision follows changes in policies by regulatory bodies and lawmakers in various US jurisdictions.
FanDuel announces change in credit card acceptance
On Wednesday, FanDuel shared an update for customers stating that it would cease processing payments with credit cards as of March 2, 2026. This will affect all of its products, including its iGaming platform, widely considered one of the best online casino options for bettors in Michigan, New Jersey, Ontario, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
According to Mark Anderson of the Associated Press, FanDuel explained that the "change was made to improve the deposit experience for our customers." While FanDuel itself has not customarily attached fees to transactions with credit cards, the card issuers have had different policies.
Many credit card contracts classify transactions at credit card casinos as cash advances, which can come with additional fees and higher interest rates. Although credit cards have been one of the easiest ways to fund an account at instant withdrawal casinos, the fees and interest may match or even exceed the value of the payments.
That is why more jurisdictions and regulatory bodies have already or have considered banning their usage for funding online gaming accounts for all licensed platforms. FanDuel may have managed to get out ahead of these measures.Â
More regions restricting credit card usage for online gaming
The tide against credit cards as online casino payment methods has been mounting for nearly two years. Although some states like Iowa and Tennessee had already limited credit card bans in place for online sports wagering, momentum truly started to build in November 2024 when the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States released its model legislation for iGaming that included exempting credit cards as a payment method.
In the following months, the Illinois Gaming Board revised its rules for online betting to ban credit card usage. Additionally, online casino regulation bills in Illinois included similar language.
The same concepts existed in online casino legalization proposals in four other states.
