Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been a BetMGM ambassador for nearly four years and the partnership has produced a new responsible gaming campaign. The messaging in the materials, including a video with former hockey player Terry Ryan, emphasizes BetMGM's resources for players built into its casino apps and websites.

BetMGM campaign encourages players to "Mullet Over"

BetMGM produced two versions of a video with appearances by McDavid and Ryan to account for regulatory differences between markets. Ontario has much stricter rules around celebrity appearances in materials for gaming companies than Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia have yet put in place.

Both versions stress that BetMGM provides several free customizable limits to players on the BetMGM Casino app. MI, NJ, PA, and WV can get the BetMGM Casino bonus code offer here:

Both videos also encourage players to think through their gaming decisions and make them as part of a plan for responsible play. "Mullet Over" is a humorous play on the words for advising bettors to mull it over, with the "it" being their gaming choices.

BetMGM has utilized McDavid's services multiple times in its quest to remain among the top online casinos in all five markets.

McDavid's relationship with BetMGM continues

McDavid made his first appearance in a promotional spot for BetMGM in 2022 alongside Wayne Gretzky. The relationship was renewed in 2024 with another video as part of a responsible gaming campaign.

McDavid has also posted to his social media accounts to support the video messaging throughout his relationship with BetMGM, further pointing players to BetMGM's responsible gaming tools. McDavid is also not the only celebrity ambassador for BetMGM.

Previous marketing materials for BetMGM in Canada and the US have also utilized the talents of Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Patton Oswalt, and Kristen Schaal, among others. Besides Gretzky, McDavid, and Ryan, other athlete ambassadors for BetMGM include Derek Jeter, Barry Sanders, and Tim Howard.

Prior marketing materials that these people have appeared in targeted toward US audiences have been promotional in nature. The ads have suggested consumers check out the online casino bonus codes at BetMGM.

Regulations in Ontario restrict iGaming licensees' advertisements but allow people like McDavid to participate in responsible gaming awareness campaigns on behalf of those licensees. BetMGM relegates these materials to an educational service to comply with those rules.

The "Mullet Over" spot will likely not be McDavid's last appearance representing BetMGM for either Canadian or US audiences. The responsible gaming angle will continue to be the focus of future campaigns.
