BetMGM lays out findings from 2025 casino game searches
BetMGM delved into search data covering casino games in 2025 and has laid out its findings. Besides giving Michigan the highest score for search volume throughout the year regarding casino games among states with the best online casinos, the document highlights other discoveries.
Slots, including online slots real money games, were the most-searched game category in 49 states plus Washington, D.C. The only state in which slots took a close second place was New Jersey, where searches for roulette barely squeaked by.
Poker nearly matched in-person and online roulette for real money in terms of national interest. The least surprising result of BetMGM's report is the state that took the top spot for searches related to casino games.
Nevada blew away the crowd, according to BetMGM, with Nevadans posting search volume 181% higher than the national average throughout the year. There are some surprises in the data.
iGaming states rank in the middle of the pack for search volume
States where people can legally play online casino games for real money weren't heavyweights in BetMGM's calculation. In reality, Michigan ranked 20th in terms of volume for all games, while West Virginia came in at 21st, and then New Jersey and Pennsylvania tied at 22nd.
For context, BetMGM's scoring put Colorado 46 points higher than Michigan for search volume for all games. BetMGM says that it used Google Trends data and ranked the various jurisdictions' search volume in comparison to the average and the rest of the field.
The data suggest that more people could be searching for the BetMGM Casino app outside of states where BetMGM operates. However, the data is not that granular.
With 2026 in action, people in various US jurisdictions have new opportunities to discover more information about casino gaming. The 2025 data suggest that familiarity has a correlation with diminished search volume.
