Best bets for Tuesday
Southern Miss and Troy begin Sun Belt Conference play against each other on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles are 1-3 while the Trojans are 2-2. Troy was picked to win the Sun Belt's Western Division in the preseason coach's poll, while Southern Miss was picked to finish fifth out of seven teams. The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, has the Golden Eagles covering 58% of the time.
It's do-or-die time for the San Diego Padres, who lost the first two games of the NLDS in Milwaukee and now need to fend off the Brewers at home at Petco Park to avoid elimination. Lockdown closer Mason Miller wasn't able to get the job done in Game 2, as Jackson Chourio won the game with a bases-loaded hit in the ninth inning. Nick Pivetta will start on Tuesday for San Diego while Dustin May goes for Milwaukee. The Over hits in nearly 60% of the model's simulations.
