Week 13 Raiders vs. Chiefs: Andy Reid teams very rarely lose out of a bye week

The AFC West race could be all but over Sunday if the Chiefs beat the visiting Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs have won the AFC West Division each of the past three seasons and they will all but clinch another title with a win Sunday over the Oakland Raiders. History under Coach Andy Reid says the Chiefs almost surely will win. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. ET from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The Chiefs are 10-point favorites on the NFL odds with an over-under total of 51.

Oakland (6-5) is one of the surprise teams in the league after winning just four games a season ago. The Raiders could tie the Chiefs (7-4) for the division lead, but a Kansas City would give it essentially a three-game lead with just four games to go. That's because the Chiefs won in Oakland 28-10 in Week 2. Weird game as the Raiders dominated in the first quarter and led 10-0.

However, then Patrick Mahomes had one of the best single quarters of football in NFL history, throwing for 278 yards and four scores in the second. His last five pass attempts all went for at least 27 yards, with three of those touchdowns. They were the most passing yards in any quarter since Drew Brees had 294 in the fourth vs. Atlanta on Nov. 9, 2008.

As double-digit favorites, the Chiefs obviously should win and they have won 11 of their past 12 as a home double-digit favorite – then again, that loss was the last time the Chiefs were in that situation, Week 5 in a 19-13 defeat to Indianapolis at -10.5. The Chiefs are just 2-6 ATS overall in their past eight as double-digit favorites.

Kansas City comes out of a bye week and Chiefs coach Andy Reid, dating to his Eagles days, is an astounding 17-3 straight up in his regular-season career out of a bye week. Two of those losses were with Kansas City, coming in 2013 in Denver and 2017 at the New York Giants. Reid is 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS out of a bye with Kansas City.

Oakland was slaughtered at the Jets last Sunday and is 3-9 ATS in its past 12 road games. The Raiders have lost their past six in Kansas City, coming by an average of 15.3 points.
