Super Bowl 2020 49ers vs. Chiefs: Will there be game's first-ever shutout?

The Super Bowl has seen just about everything over the years but for a shutout.

Newbie NFL bettors may not be aware that sometimes a sportsbook will offer a yes-only prop if it's a longer shot. The books know that it's simply not worth putting a prop out there at -10000 or the like as no bettor is going to wager $10,000 to win $100. Doesn't make financial sense for either the bettor or the book (to take that risk). In that regard, on the DraftKings NFL odds the site has a prop on whether either team will be shut out on Feb. 2 in Super Bowl LIV between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. It's yes-only at +4000.

Believe it or not, there has never been a Super Bowl where one team has been shut out. Some of the best defenses in league history – those Steel Curtain Pittsburgh Steelers, the 1985 Chicago Bears, the 2000 Baltimore Ravens just to name a few -- have played in this game but couldn't keep their opponent to zero points.

Actually, that Ravens team did hold the New York Giants' offense scoreless in XXXV in a 34-7 victory, but the Giants' Ron Dixon had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter. The 1985 Bears saw Hall of Famer Walter Payton fumble on the game's second play, and New England had three points less than two minutes into the game. The Patriots wouldn't score again until deep into garbage time when down 44-3 in the fourth quarter. Chicago won 46-10.

The fewest points scored by a team in a Super Bowl is 3. In VI, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins 24-3. That Dolphins team was the only one in SB history to not score a touchdown until last year when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever. L.A.'s field goal was a 53-yarder by Greg Zuerlein to tie it 3-3 late in the third quarter.

Who wins Super Bowl LIV? Here's one expert's pick.
