NFL Week 7 Dolphins vs. Bills: Buffalo only team in NFL without a game going over the total

The Buffalo Bills are the biggest favorites in Week 7 around the NFL as they host the winless Miami Dolphins. But the total might be the smart bet.

The 4-1 Buffalo Bills are one of the surprise teams in the AFC so far this NFL season – they and the unbeaten Patriots are the only two teams in the conference with fewer than two losses – and Buffalo figures to keep winning on Sunday as a 16.5-point home favorite over the winless Miami Dolphins. Kickoff from New Era Field is at 1 p.m. on CBS and the over-under total on the NFL odds board is a low 40.5 points.

Betting under that total could be a wise decision as the Bills are the only team in the NFL this year without a game that has gone over the total. Perhaps not a huge surprise as Buffalo has been a terrific defensive team in allowing 14.0 points with no team reaching 20 yet. On the flip side, that Bills offense remains a work in progress under second-year quarterback Josh Allen as it is putting up just 18.0 points per game.

Miami, meanwhile, at least was competitive for the first time last week in losing 17-16 at home to previously winless Washington – Dolphins coach Brian Flores opted to go for 2 points and the win and the conversion failed. That might be the best long-term thing for the franchise as it "battles" for the right to pick first in the 2020 NFL Draft. Miami is a -230 favorite on the DraftKings NFL futures odds to earn that right. The only other winless team is Cincinnati, and it is +225 on that prop. Flores is going back to Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB this week.

During its eight-game losing streak, Miami is losing by an average of nearly 25 points. The Fins also have failed to cover their past five as double-digit underdogs. Buffalo has covered eight of its past 11 as a double-digit favorite but hasn't been this big of a favorite since Dec. 6, 1992, against the New York Jets – and the Jets were 24-17 road winners at +16.5. Buffalo has won and covered six of its past seven at home vs. Miami, though.
